About   Gove District Hospital
** GOVE DISTRICT HOSPITAL **
Gove District Hospital is a busy 30 bed hospital located in Nhulunbuy on the picturesque wilderness coastline of northeast Arnhem land. The hospital provides Medical, Surgical, Paerdiatric, Obstetric and Emergency services to the mining town of Nhulunbuy and the remote Aboriginal communities of northeast Arnhem Land.

Medical Officers have a combined hospital and DMO (District Medical Officer) role. This includes a primary health care role, with visits to remote aboriginal communities as well as providing a 24 hour phone advice service to the disgtrict, including organising medical evacuations when needed. Depending on individual skills, doctors may be placed on the Aeromedical roster as the inflight doctor. The involves transfers from communities to GDH or, for more severe cases, to Royal Darwin Hospital.

There are several positions available in GDH. Most medical officers employed have at least 4 years postgraduate training, including experience in paediatrics and emergency medicine. Ideally doctors have GP level procedural skills in obstetrics, anaesthetics, surgery or critical care. The medical team is made up of a variety of backgrounds with GPs, hospital medical officers, public health physicians and GP registrars.

GDH has a vibrant team of medical and nursing staff with a focus on culturally appropriate healthcare and on upskilling and education. There are shared positions available for those who wish to work partly for a local indigenous health service and at the same time being part of the hospital medical team maintaining skills in acute care.
